LAHDC Chairman Demands Extra Leh Flights due to shortage of domestic flights flying to Leh. The chairman of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Mr. Leh Rigzin Spalbar wrote a letter on 13th May 2015 to Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Civil Aviation Minister regarding the matter of less tourists visiting to ladakh due to limited domestic carrier’s flight to Leh. The airfares are also very high because of that tourist have to postponed the trip to ladakh.
Many tourists nearly thousands of them visit Leh every year during the summer season. Leh by Air is the significant mode of transport for visiting Leh Ladakh every year. All the domestic air flight tickets have already been booked in advance. Currently there are only 23 flights functioning in a week on Delhi-Leh sector and because of that there is shortage of flights to Leh. Tourism industry is affected due to this shortage of domestic carriers and which is the main cause of livelihood to the local population. Ladakh is one of the most idyllic tourist destinations in the country for local as well as international tourist. Tourist can travel to Leh by Air is the luxurious mode of transportation.
The letter also interprets that Delhi to Leh segment is an excellent profit making region for our national carrier. The various local carriers like Indigo and spice Jet to function on Delhi-Leh sector. Chairman has already written a letter to Minister Civil Flight and SCA regarding highest airfares and increasing the number of local flights to Leh. Chairman of LAHDC Demands more Flights for Leh because tourism company business has been reduced.

An essential meeting where held on 22nd July 2013 at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan New Delhi by the Secretary Civil Aviation department so that various issues were discussed and decisions were taken that but are not yet executed. Mr. Leh Rigzin Spalbar has sincerely requested the Minister of Union Civil Aviation for the procedure of increasing more number of flights by various domestic scheduled airlines like Indigo, Spice Jet etc. to Leh.
