Ladakh Bus run straight to Leh from either Manali or Srinagar. Enroute to Leh one can stop in a number of places , most will get off in Keylong , the administrative hub for Lahaul. Overlooking Keylong is the Kardang monastery. This is the choice that the majority travelers will want to take due to the tense security situaton in Kashmir, however the road is merely open from June to mid October due to snow fall.

Tourist Ladakh buses from HPTDC and the local HRTC buses, stop overnight in Keylong.There are also minibuses and shared cabs that makes a during the night stop in Sarchu - this comes with a high incidence of altitude sickness , since Sarchu ( also dubbed "The Vomit Hilton") lies more than seven hundred meters higher than Leh , at 4253 meters. Coming from Srinagar there are a few attractive places to stop en route : Kargil at 2693 meters ( where the Ladakh bus stops , the best choice for altitude adaptation) , (Lamayuru and Alchi that also offer accommodation)

Delux Buses can be reserved through any travel agency or directly at J & K SRTC, new bus stand and Himachal TOurism reservation office at Fort Road, Leh
Bus Timings : 5.30 am reporting and 6.00 am departure from in front of State Bank of India, Main Bazaar, Leh and from Himachal Tourism reservation office, Fort Road, Leh. Fare Rs. 1000/-
Ordinary Bus Service : HRTC operates daily bus service to Manali and Delhi. Departure from new Bus stand at around 5.00 am. The reservation can be made at new bus stand directly through bus conductor atleast one day in advance. Fare Rs. 450/-.
